!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ... for merely $21,963 new. Keep in mind that this and the Alltrack are THE LAST manual proper wagons you can buy in the US as both have been killed off for 2020.
$21,963... Such a pitiful amount of money when compared to the average price of a new car in the US. An d yet it may as well be $50,000 for me. If feels that far beyond my reach.
I might be doing this “living” thing all wrong.

Fun fact: if you can still find an Alltrack, many are going for sub-$25k, which is a helluva lot of car (basically this plus some midrange options, leatherette, etc). Unfortunately, most are DSG which is still a great compromise.
But your example above may be the best value of any new car anywhere.
As a very longtime veedub enthusiast, this is one of the best noses ever. The badge cutout in the hood is such a nice touch. The new Schick Quattro thing has to go.

On the other hand, VW reliability.

Am I doing this right?

Wheels and shifter selections fill me with the opposite of confidence.

The real problem is that VW just isn’t as good as Toyota :(

I'd
seriously consider selling the gx to get one of these. we'd still have my cruiser for trailer duties. my wife is sold on the extra space though, there's no going back. I'm not too sad about it other than manual and economy.

Come on, now.
What about Jordan’s GTI?
Your AssPat?
Jkm’s Jetta?
Any of the VWs owned by that fella with all the VWs that are always breaking?
Jag’s Phaeton?
Various Dieselgate buybacks?
Okay, I’ll stop.

Oh, and the HFV’s broken Cabriolet...

Heavily modified 1 year old AllTrack being sold on Craigslist? What could possibly go wrong?
![]() 09/16/2019 at 22:13 |

Isn’t the real-REAL problem that they don’t sell this in MURIKA?

On the foot, 7-year warranty (2019 is the end of it)

I’m still daily driving the sh*t out of a 2001 loaded Passat wagon 4motion V6.
Yes, it’s held together with duct tape, hose clamps, and bubble gum. Why?
![]() 09/16/2019 at 22:21 |
|
You can still get 2019s with the good warranty though right? So buy now!
![]() 09/16/2019 at 22:23 |

And for what I’ve heard they are all out of dieselgate wagons, so that’s not an option anymore.

Just @ me bro
And I only have two VWs at the moment.
And a Saturn.
And that 93 Scoupe Turbo...

And no sunroof on the hatchback, either :(

current owner looks like a roadside shitter
He’s got a TP reserve in his car.
![]() 09/16/2019 at 22:39 |

I was going to say one can never be too prepared, but that is quite the reserve.

Have you seen the deals on CPO TDI’s? You can get one as old as 2011 with up to 75k miles CPO. Very easy to find one under $10k. They even come with a 2 year unlimited mile bumper to bumper warranty and a long emissions warranty too.

Didn’t jagcar’s phaeton’s air suspension go kaput?
![]() 09/16/2019 at 23:00 |

That was the yoke, yes
![]() 09/16/2019 at 23:34 |

Seriously. I think of dropping $10k on a car, and my heart gets palpitations. How any person pays $30k+ on a Chevy Traverse and is not in full panic attack is beyond me.

“What do you want your monthly payments to be?”
![]() 09/16/2019 at 23:38 |

My currently monthly is $0.00. What can we work with for that amount?

The thing is, and I know I’m beating this horse a bit, when I was a teenager, back in the 1980’s, I could not understand why my dad kept fixing the old, POS cars we had. Now I get it. I have just 2 cars, my 06 Focus, and my wife’s 02 Explorer. Both need constant repairs and maintenance. But it’s a damn sight cheaper than two $300-$400 month car payments.

Same. My dad bought an base Audi 4000 new in 1981, kept it until 2000 (more reliable than you’d think, but he did all the work). Pretty sure we kept the C aravan for 15 years, too.

2001 VW Transporter dual cab...just about to pass through 300,000 km and only one owner (me) . Nothing much apart from routine maintenance in all that time...
Our Subaru is even older but only 240,000 km... original clutch, original head gaskets. New suspension and front CVs though. Again...mostly just maintenance.

On a personal note, the current Golf’s front seats are even more uncomfortable than those in my Fit. They seem like fun cars but I have no desire to own one.
